• In my personal experience, UDLAP gave me many valuable tools for the development of my professional career. I have had the opportunity to continue my training abroad, with which I have realized that the knowledge that UDLAP gave me is within international standards. I believe that the UDLAP has two visions that have driven my career the most, one is the use of somatic techniques for the training of the performing artist, something that is not so easily found in Mexico, and that creates a great awareness of the body and its functioning , which exposes the bodily capabilities. And the second is the critical reflection that was always instilled in me; With this I have been able to create choreography from very different points, always with an analytical vision of both the movement and the theoretical concepts behind the movement. The combination of these two positions has delineated my professional development, and both have marked my artistic discourse.

 

• Studying at UDLAP simply gave me direction to form a point of view. To understand that it is not only possible but it is important and necessary to have a comprehensive idea of ​​everything that Dance can be and do. It planted in me the idea that you have to contemplate the parts; go through and disarm the clichés or preconceived ideas of the dancer and contemporary dance. It gave me the tools to question and form the capacity for critical thinking through which I have been able to place my own creative practice in the contemporary context and make conscious decisions about the path I want to follow. Whether this is inclusive or exclusive, relevant or irrelevant. It is not an education that indoctrinates or instructs, it is one that proposes, promotes, suggests and confronts.

 

• It helped me in many ways, thanks mainly to the teaching staff and their commitment to an active dance education.

• I feel very fortunate and pleased to have developed my dance training at UDLAP, since the study plan allowed me to look at dance from a wide range of the many facets of dance (from interpretation, teaching, stage creation, analysis and research of body languages) with a profound influence of somatic education. This reaffirmed my understanding of dance and myself in an integral way and with a critical sense, of personal agency, of respect and curiosity towards the different forms of creation, teaching and languages ​​of movement. The fact of having the opportunity to work with guest teachers from different parts of the world each semester, both for classes and for montages, enriched my panorama of dance, on the multiplicity of styles, themes and ways of approaching both an educational and creative process and choreographic. In addition, the fact of being part of a university in which we must study general studies in which we converge with students from other careers, also provides a more complex and comprehensive spectrum to our training.

 

• University is the best experience I have ever had. It gave me all the bases so that today I can create and travel doing what I love to do. I will always be grateful to the teachers who trained me and are present in my dance every day.

 

• Studying at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla helped me to broaden my horizons in terms of dance, as they well mention in the graduate profile, during each semester you get to know the wide market that this career has, dance is more than a moving body Yes, well, it is a primary study but not only do you study dance to be a performing dancer, a large number of areas derive from dance, therefore you have a wide field of work, but it is only with the correct advice and with academic studies suitable where you can really visualize and find the different aspects that a profession offers us. I am completely satisfied with my studies at UDLAP, it has given me the necessary tools and enough motivation to continue learning and to be able to compete successfully in my profession.

 

• The UDLAP dance school gave me the foundations to experience the real world of dance. There is nothing bad that I have to say, but rather encouraging dancers of next generation to never give up, they have come a long way by simply deciding to study dance as a bachelor. Believe in you, the competition is very tough, and it will probably take more than 3 years to see your dreams come true (as a dancer / performer), but stay on the road. At the end of the tunnel a light will be seen and each one of you will have achieved what you love so much. I am still on the road and I would not change anything about all the experiences I have had outside of the University.

 

• UDLAP gives you technical bases in the area of ​​dance, UDLAP opens doors to the outside, gives you a broader vision of dance.   MISSION

  The Bachelor of Dance at Universidad de las Américas Puebla is committed to providing high-quality training in contemporary dance with an important complement in classical dance. This dance education is integrated with intellectual and creative practices designed to develop and support artists and citizens who can serve the cultural and social needs of their communities to the highest level.

  VISION

  The Bachelor of Dance was created with the aim of bringing students closer to different professional tasks in different dance fields, whether as a performer, choreographer, pedagogue, researcher, critic or manager. In an environment of intellectual pluralism, critical thinking, somatic studies, technical practice and highly rigorous creative processes, the Bachelor of Dance combines a deep admiration for tradition with respect for the individual voice and experimentation. We offer a wide range of methodologies for the study of dance, while developing and promoting individual curiosity and self-discipline, combining ethical values ​​and a humanistic vision to educate new generations of dance professionals. The program presents dance with a multidisciplinary vision that seeks to promote, undertake and monitor the development of dance as a profession in Mexico, and generate graduates who can understand, practice, promote and embrace dance as a vital part of a healthy society and productive.

  In an effort to carry out our mission more effectively and to improve the quality of our program, candidates for admission to the UDLAP bachelor’s degree in dance must be accepted through the general admission process of the UDLAP already established, and also participate auditioning to be specifically accepted into the Dance program.

  The audition consists of a personal interview, a Classical Ballet class, a Contemporary Dance class, an Improvisation sample, and a short free choreographic sample lasting approximately 1 minute.

  • Opportunities through the UDLAP Dance Cultural Representative Groups to present concerts in various places and venues each year.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

As a student in the Bachelor of Dance, you will approach the different professional tasks in this discipline, exposing yourself to its theoretical, methodological, practical and technical foundations. In the same way, you will be a participant in creative and communicative processes of dance practice, through a wide and diverse understanding of body awareness. At the same time, you will find an inter-disciplinary approach to emerging processes, proposals with social commitment and ethical innovation in the cultural field, both nationally and internationally, whose training pillars are body-performative techniques, theoretical competences, creation, management, production, teaching and research.

  • Make you more capable and proficient in the application of the relationships between breath-movement, body-space and time-rhythm.

GRADUATE PROFILE

At the end of your degree, in addition to having expanded your entry skills, you will also have

• Ability to integrate teaching and learning mechanisms of direct transmission, teacher-student, through bodily-experiential and individualized practices.
• Ability to assess the disciplinary relationship of reciprocity and balance between theoretical and practical aspects of dance through choreographic processes, research related to the field and creative research practices.
• Skill in the application of improvisation processes, choreography and dance technique on a practical level for the body.
• Competence in applying contemporary theories of dance performance and improvisation, through knowledge of contact improvisation, body dramaturgy, and performance studies.
• Development of work models that reflect the possibilities that the realities of the current market represent: such as working with small groups and collaborative work.
• Competence in the application of theoretical elements such as history, cultural context, somatic studies that are present in the execution and interpretation of dance.

Graduation Requirements

To proceed with their degree, the student must have completed all the units that are part of the study plan of the Bachelor of Dance. You must comply with the set of requirements and procedures established in the Manual of Policies and Procedures for Student Cases of the Universidad de las Américas Puebla, as well as with the requirements of the bachelor’s degree, in general.
